I was born and bred in Tredegar and went to the local Grammar school. Now very much in the autumn of my life I like to remember my humble beginnings having left Tredegar at the age of 16. My father was the deputy post master at the Crown Post Office. We lived firstly at Queen Street and then Edwards Terrace Georgetown. Although now retired I miss my roots . God bless you tredegar.

Just to say I am here because of the 'Ban the Boss' TV program, which shows that your area is leading the way.
Pity it was only possible to watch the progtram on iPlayer outside of Wales, as the ideas need to get more coverage. I have many friends who don't have access to the internet, and they would have found the program very stimulating. The program we got up in Lancashire, was about two families inbvolved in stockcar racing, possibly interesting locally but I would have rather had 'Ban the Boss' being transmitted, partly because it was a rare example of this type of program showing success, rather than failure.
I am part of a local environmental co-op being set up , and understand the concept of workers doing more to run their 'businesses'. The bottom-up approach also fits well with the Transition movement.

I would like to thank and congratulate those responsible for the panoramic photos published a while back they are bloody good,I've speny ages going over them looking for memories most of which are gone I think.I used to look out of my bedroom window and see a run down coal mine now its gone! and houses are painted now how odd,we all lived in a black and white world back in the day.Looking at the many photos of Tredegar I was lost to work out why things looked so different, then it came to me.....TRAFFIC there were hardly any cars when I was a lad,the old rickety bus took an hour to go from the circle to Troed.then turn around and go back. And the bus to Cardiff took two hours. No this wasn't before the war it was in the '64 when we left. I've spent a fair bit of time driving around the town lately all thanks to Google, seen more of Tredegar in the last six months than I did when I lived there. Anyway 'ooroo for now.

I always heard about my great-grandmother, Mary Foley, escaping the Irish riots in Tredegar with the rest of the family because my great-great-grandfather could speak Welsh and was warned about the riot coming. It's an amazing feeling when family stories match up to real reported historical events.

I was born in the St. James Hospital in feb 1961. My Mother is Margaret Tasker (Nee Morgan). My dad was in the Army, based in Hereford, so was raised on the wrong side of the border (English side).

My Nan & Daddo (William and Nancy Morgan) lived at 4 Nan Ty Bych, and my Mum, two brothers and I used to spend a lot of time there, as dad was away a lot.

I've settled down in Belize, after 24 years in the Army, but will never forget my roots!

Research into my family history shows that both my great grandfather and great grandmother (on my fathers side) were born in Tredegar. My great grandfather was a John Williams (born in 1844) and my great grandmother an Eleanor Williams (born in 1847). The 1891 census shows they had 4 children (Ellen, Daniel Smith, Minnie and Eleazor Arthur); it appears that both Ellen and Eleazor Arthur were born in Tredegar. I would like info on a couple of things:
1.In 1844, what were the names of the registration district and registration sub-district into which Tredegar was placed?
2. Does anybody know when John and Eleanor Williams were married?
3.Any more info about these grandparents would be gratefully appreciated.
Cheers Roger.
