Normally place these in the photos section, but not this one

A fantastic photo taken by the late Cyril Rogers of the town who was a very well respected photographer!

A picture of our lovely GP Dr Bryant, photographed in his consulting room at the surgery in Park Place.

Many thanks to Cyril's family for allowing us to share his work with the rest of the town.

And I'm pretty sure Patricia married David Stibbs in 1955

I now have found out Dr Bryant's correct birth details..
He was born Revera Trevor Bryant 25/1/1903 (later he was Trevor R Bryant) in Ebbw Vale to Evan James Bryant a colliery overman and Bessie Pope both parents being born in Somerset. He was the 4th of 5 surviving children. His first practice was at Pontycymmer near Bridgend 1928-1932..then he went to Tredegar as pointed out by Morgan. He was awarded the OBE in 1965 and died of cancer in 1975.His daughter Patricia went to live in Vancouver Morgan-you were right again!!

Dr. Bryant had only two children.

As you say Morgan - Kenneth and Patricia. Patricia was a stunning looking girl, just like her mother.

Patricia was a year older than me.

Dr. Bryant was my cousin Mervyn Morgan's mentor. Mervyn, after qualifying as a Doctor, went into practice with Dr. Shaw, Ebbw Vale.

Hi Morgan
Please refer to my second post on the topic.
Are you sure that Patricia was Dr Bryant's daughter and not that of Rowland Bryant of Ebbw Vale?If you're right it means Dr Bryant started practising in Tredegar sometime between Kenneth's birth in 1930 and Patricia's in 1932.
Kenneth has told me in a recent e-mail that his father never really retired and died of cancer when he was 70 or so years old..so about 1968.

My brother, Tony Cole, was born in February 1933 and Dr Bryant was in attendance. I think he was newly qualified, as my father asked him if he had left school as he looked so young. He had a bet with my mother that he would give her a box of chocolates if it was a girl, and if it was a boy, she would have to buy him cigarettes, which she duly did.
He was our doctor for many years, and when I was having my daughter in 1957, he lent my mother his stethoscope so that she could listen for the heartbeat.
He was a great doctor and much loved in the town.

Kenneth Bryant has written a book called The Health of a Nation ..The History of the Health Service published 1999.He has written a number of other books and is a professional photographer.
Google "Kenneth M Bryant Godalming" (where he lives/works) if you want to know more.
I've just ordered the book from Amazon..there's now only one left so hurry if you want it!!

I stand corrected...almost unbelievably ANOTHER Bryant (Rowland) married to a Stephens (Elsie) (married in 1928 too!! in Bedwellty parish)probably had the children I mentioned above ,and certainly were the parents of Vernon. The only children of Dr Bryant I've been able to confirm ,as milkman said, was Kenneth M Bryant registered in Bridgend Sep 1930..he would be 81 now.
Does anyone know when Dr Bryant started practising in Tredegar

The shuffle along the brown polished benches and the unforgettable Click, Click, Click of the revolving door.

When I broke my work one saturday night he fixed it, in his home without a word of "its too late etc...Now, that is a doctor
milkman Posted - 14/04/2012 : 20:35:04
They also had a son- Kenneth.
I believe he does something about Welsh history.
(Perhaps I should say "did" since je would now be about 80)
garyw Posted - 14/04/2012 : 19:03:23
And to finish off my "fun half hour" Dr Bryant married Elizabeth Stephens in 1928 in Carmarthen and had I believe 3 children
Vernon b 1930
Patricia b 1932
Neita b 1934

For those REALLY REALLY interested 20 mins on the net shows Dr Bryant was the 8th of 10 children (1 died young) born to William Matthew Bryant and Catherine nee Griffiths.William was a prison warder and they lived in Roath. He certainly wasn't born with a silver spoon in his mouth!
garyw Posted - 14/04/2012 : 18:14:24
In fact for those interested Free BMD shows he was Trevor Rowland Bryant born in/near Cardiff in 1898.
Now you know!!
garyw Posted - 14/04/2012 : 18:10:10
I've just found out that his first name was Trevor..I knew that in a previous lifetime!!
garyw Posted - 14/04/2012 : 18:06:41
Talk about bringing back memories..I felt quite emotional when I saw this photo of a great doctor.
I remember being told by him to "make some water".My young self obviously looked perplexed for he leaned closer to me and whispered.."pee in here"!!
What was his first name and was he a Tredegar boy??
