Hi know of 3 rees price's and there could be more in the line. 1, Rees price b 17 jul 1859 Llanwrtyd, Breconshire married Anne Draper. Son Rees b 1884 tredegar. Then Son William Charles had son Rees born 1903 Tredegar. Williams wife died and he emmigrated to Australia to be with sisters family. My ggrand mother Mary Ann married to John Pugh. I know some of the siblings came to australia but not sure about rees. Sister Ellen came out later on with her family "Bowens" after going to Canada. My email is karendrury62@hotmail.com if you wish to share our info and we can see if they match up.

Karen

There are 14 replies, with the last one on 15/08/2010 at 19:23:50 by mike
Quote:
I know what you mean, Emrys.

My father's parents both had Welsh as their first language, but my grandmother was from mid-Wales (Llanidloes) while my grandfather was Tredegar born and bred. However, they never spoke Welsh at home, and my father learned hardly any Welsh. When (as a child) I asked why they only spoke English, I was told that "they couldn't understand each other's Welsh". It emerged much later that they could understand each other perfectly well, but each regarded the other's Welsh as "incorrect". Being both strong personalities, they argued all the time, and in the end agreed to speak only English. In fact, I can remember unwittingly triggering a heated argument about the difference between dwym and poeth to describe temperature, when working through my Welsh homework.

I went to the Lewis School in Pengam, which was in Glamorgan; Welsh was compulsory for the first three years. The trouble was that they taught "Book Welsh", instead of the living language. I had to unlearn most of it when I subsequently started to learn Welsh in evening classes.

Mike
