Colbourne dedicates first GB medal to late father

MARK COLBOURNE won Britain’s first medal of the Paralympics — and dedicated it to his dad who died of stomach cancer earlier this year.
Colbourne, 42, won silver in the men’s C1-3 1km Time Trial in the Velodrome, clocking 1:08.471 behind gold medallist Li Zhang Yu of China.
It comes just three years after the former Wales volleyball international broke his back in a paragliding accident and six months after the death of his father, Cecil.
Colbourne, whose victory was watched by mum Margaret and teenage daughter Jessica, said: “To win a medal in London was just a dream. Now it’s a reality. I’m very proud to have won the first medal for Team GB.
“I feel I have won the medal for my dad who passed away in February.
“I’d like to dedicate it to him and hopefully there will be another one at the Games.
Colbourne, who is back in the Velodrome tomorrow for his favoured event in the 3km pursuit, said: “Three years ago I thought my life was over. But if you take adversity and face it head on in a positive way you never know what you can achieve. Today has shown that.”
The Tredegar cyclist also revealed that he had been using headphones to get used to the roar of the crowd after watching the likes of Sir Chris Hoy and Laura Trott compete at London 2012 last month.
He said: “I’ve been doing my own personal noise training over the last few weeks and using headphones to get used to the volume of 110-120 decibels.
“The noise level even on the TV at the Olympics was just defeaning so I thought maybe if I try it out before I come here then I am prepared.
“Obviously it worked. I have just used crowd noise, listening to para-cycling and able-bodied noise from world cups and London 2012 on You Tube.”

Has anyone any idea as to what time his event is today ? Is it definatly on channel 4 or is there a possibility of it being moved to More 4 ????

Sirhowy, aged 42.
Played volleyball for Wales in his early 20's, and a keen triathlon till he broke his back around 3 years ago.
Also, he does not sugar in his tea, and was crap at sums at school
