| They may have spent a lot of money on Silverstone, but dont forget it is a growing sport and a lot more events could be created to fill a new Venue. Power to their elbow i say lets get the jos here. |

Fear for new Rassau, Blaenau Gwent, development Source: SouthWalesArgus
I refer to Emma Mackintosh’s article on Saturday, August 25: ‘£250 million motor circuit development for Rassau, Blaenau Gwent’ Johnathan Deacon (reader at the University of Wales Newport) comments that the benefits of the development won’t be realised for decades. I would go further and say that the benefits to Blaenau Gwent may never be fully realised. Most of the past and proposed developments for South Wales (not including Cardiff) have tended to be junk developments. That is to say, make lots of money for the developers and lobbyist and be of little long-term benefit to the community and taxpayers. Many of these schemes tend to incorporate 19th/20th century technologies and infrastructures of questionable quality and endurance. In other words, within a short period of time they become obsolete and/or not fit for purpose. Blaenau Gwent and the rest of South Wales desperately need modern, state of the art, sustainable developments. to provide work and security for future generations. New developments should provide sustainable jobs and training for an educated workforce. These new developments should be distributed and constructed in and for communities other than Cardiff. In the 21st century, it should not be necessary for a skilled workforce to spend half their lives and salaries commuting to the more prestigious cities (such as Cardiff).

| I hope they include a speedway track. Since Newport wasps had shut down there will be a demand for it. |

This would be great for the area as long as the road network is sorted out and I must agree, keep the councils away from it! Did I read on the flyer distributed the other week, that they are yet to seek planning permission?? So perhaps more hot air and lots of expended energy talking about something that may never happen, when there are lots of existing worthwhile projects in the town that could always do with extra support. Not to mention the huge amount of history in the town that is slowly being eroded by the so-called wise people of the elected council. |
