Comments: I moved away from Tredegar in 1998 and went to Cardiff where I stayed for 5
years. I now live in Bolton, Greater Manchester. I still Keep in touch with people from
Tredegar my parents still live there, so do my brothers. It's not very often I visit
Tredegar's website but when I do it's the same old thing. Nothing seems to be updated. It
would be great to visit the website in future and find things have actually moved on from
2002!!!

Comments: Hi everyone, I am trying to find my ancestors who came to PA from Wales. I have
sort of narrowed the search down to Tredegar from some info I found at familysearch.com. I
am looking for Charles & Elizabeth (Nash) Tilley and their children. My
great-grandfather, William Tilley was born 12 Feb 1851 in Wales. According to his obituary
he is one of 20 children and his parents are listed as Charles & Elizabeth. William
married Elizabeth Steele. William's siblings that we know about are Charles b. Mar 1850,
Harriet b. 1856, Albert b. 30 Jan 1859 and Samuel b. Nov 1865. In a book someone wrote
about this line is written that in 1861 they lived 121 Scwia Road, Duffey's Upper,
Dukestown, Llandunider, Wales and next door to Charles was Alfred Tilley & wife
Amalia. I located this Alfred & Amailia through familysearch in Tredegar. Of the five
obits I have Samuel's states he was born in South Wales, I also have his natualization
showing they came to the USA in 1865 fro!
m Liverpool.
I would like any help/leads to locate the other 15 children and possibly get birth/baptism
certificates for the children. It is possible that Charles' first name was William, that
is what is shown on the marriage certificate. Any help greatly appreciated.

If it is, I have a query relating to my 2 x great-grandmother (Elizabeth LITTLEY) who died
at Tredegar on 25 April 1859.
Her death certificate is very difficult to read and I cannot make out the name of the
parish where she was buried.
It looks as though it may be Penmorth Tirhoroy, Tredegar, Monmouth, Wales. Is there such a
parish?
Her husband, John Marshall LITTLEY (born Ottery St Mary in Devonshire) was an iron mine
worker at Tredegar.
I believe that several of his children (including my great-grandfather - Edward Littley)
were born at Tredegar.
Unfortunately, none of their births were registered (Civil Registration). Therefore, I
need to know in which parish I should be looking.

Comments: moved away when i was 14, parents fault,i didn`t want to but must admit i`m glad
i did. i`ve got grandparents in abertysswg and visit them occasionally. always drive
through my home town, past glyn terrace and around the clock. always used to go around the
clock with charlie hills buses on the way to sunday school. still and always will be proud
to be a boy from tredegar but upsets me when i go back to see boarded up shops and houses.
i remember the early 70`s, playing in the old train station and fishing for `catfish` in
the river. used to play cricket around the back of vale terrace with mark jones and robin
lloyd. remember???

Some months ago I read with interest and sadness the debate about Cefn Golau. Perhaps another forum for discussion could be the subject of parking.
I moved away from treed many years ago but continue to return to visit my parents. In the subsequent years the volume of traffic has increased as has the number of cars per household. To me this is something I feel qualified to note as an infrequent visitor I tend to notice changes quickly rather than gradually as with the resident.
The narrow streets are packed with vehicles as lots of households do not have a garage and with the vehicles of several car families overcowding streets which were not designed for passing, obstructing, security and child safety are obvious problems. naturally people wish to park their vehicles as close as possible to their own homes, they are a big personal investment!
What about parking permits; herring bone parking spaces; one way systems?
Perhaps a local, or several, councillors might like to enter the discussion?
By the way have loved your site, Ron Harding's and Brian Gardiner's, they have allowed me to keep in contact with the town and old friends.

My maternal grandmother, Mary Elizabeth Thomas, was born in Tredegar on 20 June1875 I have been led to believe. Anything I could learn about her or her family would be most appreciated. My wife and I were in Tredegar 2 years ago but for far too brief a time. We want to return but may have to wait until next year. I must say we fell in love with Cymru and its wonderful people. We shall soon be moving into the Blackwood area. My wife needs to get to Tredegar for a
7am start for work. It appears if you do not work a normal 9 to 5 job then you will have
severe difficulties. I was advised once that there was a 26 bus leaving Blackwood for
Tredegar at 0640 and arriving at Tredegar at 0706. Not too bad I thought. I checked this
out the other day and was stunned to learn that the service was scrapped due to lack of
subsides. The earlies 56 bus leaves Blackwood at 0755 arriving Tredegar at 0825. Does
anyone have any more info on services or can help with advice etc.
It appears to me that Tredegar is not viewed very well by the Stagecoach company. Their website says that changes to the 26 service from Tredegar will happen on 13 July 2002. It does not state what changes. A crazy state of affairs.

My father in law ( who is 80 )grew up in Tredegar and attended the Grammar School in
the 1930,s and worked locally prior to the war . I am trying to find anyone who might have
known him during this time , either at school, work or perhaps through the church he

Comments: I have recently retired and wish to move back to where my roots are. I used to live in Markham when a small kid but moved to London. I have been looking for property in the area. When I talk to people about tredegar I keep hearing the same story. " A ghost town in decline". This is a real shame as I have very fond memories of Tredegar. Does anyone know if the small hospital is still open in Tredegar. My wife may like to look for a nursing job their. yes, I visited the Wetherspoons pub. Did that used to be a cinema. Has the opening of that pub had any effect on local pubs and restaurants at all.

Your_Comments: We came to Tredegar to join in celebration with others the 40th birthday of a mutual friend. We applaud Weather-spoons, Hobo backpacker, the greasy spoon cafe (with its £3 breakfast) and the great taxi service to the Fern Hotel. We blow raspberries to the Fern Hotel for refusing us a drink and respectfully request that the local council need to clean the chewing gum from the pavements because it makes the chicken biriani taste worse. There is sure to be more to follow.

Your_Comments: Loved your site. My cousins and I visited your area on that day that will long be in our memories, Sept. 11, 2001. We didn't get to do some of the things we planned because time just got away from us in Dukestown Cemetery and Abergavenny's Old Municipal Cemetery, But we did get to spend time at the circle. Many members of our ancestral line lived in Tredegar/Sirhowy during the mid and late 1800s .. Masons, Bennetts, Williams and possibly a new one - Swidenbanks. The grandfather of my own great grandfather's friend, Edwin Collins, was a clock winder in those early days of its existence so I have felt a close affinity for it!!

Your_Comments: I was just there in Tredegar this last June to visit with my husband's family. His mother lives in Peacehaven. Tredegar is a lovely town. We relived many fond memories my husband had as a child and we went to breakfast at a terrific place in town. I believe it was called "The Ranch" or something like that. It was GREAT. For a typical "Welsh" breakfast, the portions were very "American" in size, the coffee was great and the service was very nice. We can't wait "to come home again to Wales"
