...And The Gates Close |
The Tech-Board Story (Stranger then fiction) The true story of the most dramatic "Greenfield Startup" failure in British manufacturing history ... And The Gates Close ... Into Receivership
One afternoon everyone was called out to the carpark. A list of name were read out and that group of people were asked to go and stand on their own. The remaining group were than told that they no longer had a job. The mill had gone into receivership. Top management practices were always to the fore at Tech-Board! Receivership - came suddenly!! I remember George told us that the banks pulled out overnight!!! By the way the start up backing was provided by Commander Learmond & 3I principally. As George left site he told us he would return!!! & he did with Enron. George was then planning the start of the new Tech-Board. Peter Evans (Tech-boards, and latter Imperial Boards Purchasing manager) office was located in the kitchen , from here they engineered the utility & wood deals with George. Unfortunately Enron spent a large amount of money and got nowhere. Production failed and failed again!!! |
