and the Gates Close Again |
The Tech-Board Story (Stranger then fiction) The true story of the most dramatic "Greenfield Startup" failure in British manufacturing history and the Gates Close Again ... and Again ... and Again Huw Jones (who joined Tech-Board in 1995 as Engineering Manager reporting to David Heslop (Where are they now?). was planning the take over of the company some time before closure occurred. The big problem Huw's team had was lack of finance!! The mill worked well and the team spirit was good amongst the troops!! Yes these were good days. A lot of the old regulars were laid off, and were not offered back to the new company that was now called Imperial Boards. The question Is that is it just a coincidence that it had the same name as the street where the planning for the first Tech-Board had taken place several years latter ? The end was inevitable on limited resources and as usual came quickly!!, The car park was used to inform the work force and it was a bad day for all concerned. John Davies (Tech-Boards second HR manager after Ted - see Where are they now?) was going to join Huw's team in the buy out of the company, but strangely declined. A lucky escape for John ? (Where are they now?)!! |
