The Tech-Board Story (Stranger then fiction)logo-1.gif (3928 bytes)

The true story of the most dramatic "Greenfield Startup" failure in British manufacturing history

Tech-Board Today

Today the mill still stands. All the office equipment has gone, and it is patrolled by a solitary security guard. As far as I now the main press is still in place, but the paint line, and such have long gone.

Tech-Board Today This is taken from just outside the main gates. The Tech-Board sign on the side of the building was still in place even when they changed the name of the company from Tech-Board to Imperial Boards.
The car park is now empty. When Tech-Board was in full swing, even with three shift patens going, this car park was always full. To park you may have had to park on the road outside. Tech-Board Today
Tech-Board Today The wood yard is now empty. At it's height, Tech-Board employed over 200 people, and many of these lived locally.
On the fence to the right, you can see a sign post with a number to phone for "Enquirer" about the premises. If anybody is interested, I've got £500 quid to put down ? Tech-Board Today
Looking down the valley This is the view down the Ebbw-Vale valley, just outside the main gates of Tech-Board. This picture does not do it justice.

Final Word - From Pierre

And that's is really. The time that I spent working at Tech-Board  was very enjoyable. I know that the chances of me being involved in a green field start-up the size of Tech-Board only three minutes drive from where I live (www.tredegar.co.uk) will never happen again, no matter what the WDA tell us.

I only really understood what Malcolm & co went through putting the place together after reading the press cutting's that Guy had kept from all those years ago, and the way that Malcolm and Tony were "removed" from Tech-board to be replaced by George Anderson and Chris Attwell-Thomas (known as Billy Braces ..(Where are they now?) only for them to fail, must be a hard pill to swallow.
