28th February 2006 - Main news page
Kwik Save closed its doors for the last time Sunday afternoon.

They said months ago it would shut, now it has.
Running out of places to get the grub in . . . .

I like to point out there is no relation between Aldi & Lidl. The Aldi group are two brothers Karl & Theo Albrecht who opened there first store in Dortmund in 1973.

Lidl & Schwarz were grocery wholesale and started trading in 1930 and opened there first Lidl store in 1973 in Germany

Rumours, go on... spill the beans......
You know it makes sense....

I heard earlier in the week that Aldi were in for it but hadn't then signed, yesterday I heard that it was definitely Aldi...............................Guess we will have to wait and see!
Lots of rumours going around about other shops too, but nothing definite.

Oh well- it's au revoir to Kwik Save today - any absolute confirmation on who is going there instead? Heard Aldi's being mentioned again- anyone know exactly who it will be?
Cae Posted - 08/03/2006 : 14:15:27
It is being taken over by someone (not Somerfield) and the staff will be losing their jobs.

I heard someone say this afternoon that Ebbw Vale is one of the places that will be getting a Netto store?
jo Posted - 02/03/2006 : 20:18:57
I read somewhere (BBC I think) Netto and Aldi were some of the stores but I think there were others (not mentioned)

Some stores are being taken over but not by Somerfield. Will be interesting to see who'll be taking over ours? Any more news on that- Pierre has heard Tesco Express-any others mentioned?

As of the 28th February 2006, Kwik Save has been taken over by new management, and a list of stores operated under new management can be found at http://www.kwiksave.co.uk. The Tredegar & Rhymney stores are not on the list, but the Ebbw Vale store is.
Cae Posted - 01/03/2006 : 11:26:13
I can see we're not on the list of stores that are without buyers so that's something. The Rhymney one is on the list though.

I have been told by an employee that Kwik Save, Tredegar will close on 31st March.
Cae Posted - 27/02/2006 : 22:23:02
Ah! Well they did say at the theatre tonight that it was going to be opened as something else. Let's hope we get something decent.
pierre Posted - 27/02/2006 : 21:00:09
They are going to keep it open (till 5:00pm) each day tiull the stock run's out.

Rumour is that Tesco are going to open an express shop
Cae Posted - 27/02/2006 : 19:45:07
Is it permanent then? I know 13 in Wales are closing for good but notice on door said will be closed on Feb 27th (or so dearest mother informed me!)
If it has shut forever then we've got a choice of.......Farmfoods, Farmfoods or um.......Farmfoods!
