It was open one week, and demolished very very soon after,it makes one think that someone jumped the gun on the planning aspect of the property, if there ever was one. It was I believe, under new management and renamed. It seemed to be demolished before it was given a chance to survive.

Does anyone remember what the original name for Sirhowy Inn was ?
Also the cellar which had reinfoced steel jack arches in ceiling was used as an air-raid shelter during WW2.The first inn keeper I can remember there in the 1940s was Charles Horbet then John Kennedy who was reputed to be a relative of the US president same name.

I have a bit of information on the Sirhowy Inn - the inquest into the death of my Great Grandad was held "IN THE HOUSE OF MARGARET WILLIAMS KNOWN BY THE SIGN OF SIRHOWY INN" in the Parish of Bedwelty. This was in February 1877. I don't know what year it was built.

best wishes Gwen

I believe that originally Sirhowy Inn was a coaching Inn on what was one of the main routes between Hereford and West Wales and back in the 19th Century it was called the Wyvern. It is also mentioned in connection with the Chartist Riots due to some controversy involving the landlord at the time the Chartists marched towards Newport in 1839.I remember the remains of the old stables behind the Inn.
