Thank you Pierre. I'm not absolutely sure (and am not being picky honestly) but I think you've shown a photo of Tredegar Brickworks, with Forge Houses directly behind . The Sirhowy brickyard was actually the Ebbw Vale brickyard built in 1911 with the initials E.V. and date clearly set out with bright coloured bricks. As far as I know the smokestack of the latter company was the only one in operation when the photograph shown was taken. Emrys

My brother worked in the kilns and got suspended from work for climbing that stack in a bet with workmates who said they would finish his shift if he did it. My father worked there also and his job was to shovel the coal down into the kilns to keep them burning, he was above the kilns and had to lift a cast iron plate and shovel the coal in at set intervals. We lived in front of the brickworks and as kids used to get through a hole in the fence and make cabins in the brick stacks.
