Hi Pierre, our town clock must be one of the most famous landmarks in the country. If only it could speak, what stories it could tell of the changes that have taken place around it. Now, i bet that would make a good read.

I recall a whisper back in the mid 1970's on LG reorganisation Das Capital HQ over in Ebbw Vale were investigating the location of the four anchor strap foundations of the Town Clock with the intention of uprooting it and transplanting it as part of their town centre redevelopment. But thanks to a loyal Tredegar lad working on the inside with them accidentally on purpose mislaid the old foundations layout plan much to their great disappointment. This lad should go down in the annals of Tredegar history for evermore as the saviour of the Town Clock

I believe one the legs or foundations could be seen in the cellar of Charles and Finch, the ironmongers. I think there are four "legs"which spread out under the road.Mr.Jenkins,who worked for the council, used to hang out of the windows in the clock faces to clean them and set the hands in the fifties. The Health and Safety would have a fit today
