Many thanks to Rhyd Boy for this one, he added:
"Troed Chapel going past Bedwellty House in about 1955. Banner carriers are Keith Lewis and Reg Weech behind them are Bill Lewis, Bill? Hooper, Ken Holley, Tom Jones, Reg Padfield amongst others. The choirs used to sing afresh at this stage I believe that they were judged by dignitaries sitting on the balcony above. I remember Nye Bevan being there."

Troedrhiwgwair chapel, formerly Old Bethania built in 1874,replaced by Bethania Cong. Chapel Arthur street in1909.The chapel was reopened in the 1950's by a group who broke away from Primitive Methodist,Walter street, led by Reg Padfield,a former teacher at Georgetown Sec.Modern and a local preacher.I can remember an old lady living in a room under the chapel in the 1940's. The original members of the chapel met in a room in a house in Troedrhiwgwair before they built the chapel.Out of their meagre wages they donated the money to build it . Troed had 3places of worship-Bethania,Armageddon near the school, and a Church in Wales tin Church,I think it was St. Oswalds. The war memorial plaque from the Church was rescued some years ago and is now in St George's |
