We have a new section on the web-site from today on Old Tredegar Pubs.

A big thanks to Ralph Rockman & forum regular Sassafras for the information and great photos.

Please click on the menu, Town Info -> Pubs -> Old Pubs

Please use this thread if you see any errors or comments

Wow that really is very impressive. Isn't it incredible of how little (myself included) know of the history of our town.

ref Old tredegar pubs.
Iam sure the Talbot was called the Talbot Hotel not the Talbot Inn.
Whilst on the subject do you know where i could see any photos of the Talbot or of Iron Street before the re-development of the street.

Hi Talbot
You are correct it was the Talbot Hotel, also where local Boxers trained.

What was the blokes first name that owned it ?

Its a very good point, and it needs to go on the list !

Anybody got any dates for opening and closing of Spats, and the other one after that ?

Oy- it was spelt Spatz! (And Pierre- you're 5 months older than me cheeky monkey!) It may have been opened 87- at least that's when I went there first as it was always the New Club for 18th parties before then. I think it may have been 89 when it came back as the name Marsh's- I remember telling Dave over in Dollars (he had that as well) it was a daft thing to call a nightclub Marsh's, nothing wrong with Spatz and that was late 88 and it hadn't re-opened then? Didn't like it as Marsh's anyway- different set-up- too much trouble in there then.

Wasn't 'Spatz' notorious for fighting and brawling?
I can remember it being referred to as, 'the blood & guts' pub.
