A bit scary coming down Iron St full pelt on the sledge. it was quite a popular spot in the Winter along with Lower Coronation St and Stable Lane. The run down Irons St was a good bit shorter than the others but it was so quick especially when the ice appeared!. We had to be careful not to hit the concrete wall at the bottom, as it was a couple of feet thick and strangely enough didn't move when you hit it, :) We used to have to slow down a bit and try to hit it sideways on. Very many happy hours spent there, it was so cold your hands would get hot!
Following on from Titch- We used to sledge from the top of Aberffryd, down Park Hill then down Stable Lane. That also was quick but the bit we had to be careful about was that there was often a loco at the Stables and Granary. We did try to avoid him. looking carefully at the pics I think they were before(even) my time. They were never smart but they looked even worse the. Added to which there was not one car in sight. Makes you realise how lucky we are; hardly anyone these days can imagine just how quiet the roads were.
