This is a BBC drama based on Northern Ireland. It was much praised in the media BUT.
The accents were so strongly Irish that I could not understand very much.
Having said that I worked and served with Ulstermen and had no problem whatsoever with the accent.
To me it would seem sensible to keep the accent more moderate to attract a bigger audience. Surely that is what both the Beeb and the audience want.
Now I know I could have rung Titch who could have translated on-line but that is because I could be lucky. What do others think

I didn’t watch it but my husband did and he said exactly the same as you.He had difficulty understanding them...
