I have a young ancestor by the name of Samuel Ward born 1n 1876 in Bedwelty, died in 1878 in Merthyr Tydfel.
Says he was buried in Bethesda Gwynedd. Is this a cemetary?

Bethesda is a former slate quarrying town (current population c. 5000) in the administrative county of Gwynedd, which makes up most of north-west Wales. It is not a cemetery as such, but there will presumably be a cemetery situated in the community of Bethesda. It is some distance from Merthyr Tydfil, but many slate quarry workers migrated to work in the South Wales coalfields so itís possible that Samuelís parents or guardians wanted him to be buried in a family grave. Alternatively, churches and chapels in Wales were named after Bible places such as Bethesda. I donít know if there was a chapel named Bethesda in Merthyr, which could be the location of a cemetery, but that doesnít explain the further reference to Gwynedd

I hope you donít think Iím intruding into your family history, but Iíve looked a little further into your question and I think we can discount my earlier suggestion about Bethesda Chapel (there was such a place) in Merthyr. I think your own previous research has led you to the site of Samuel Wardís grave at Christ Church, situated on the A5, the main road through Bethesda. I trust this helps.

Thank you so much for the information. I have contacted the church and asked if there was a cemetery at the church. hoping maybe they can help me locate a grave marker.
