there were some discussions, a while ago, on the forums, about doing this. how about we make a start.

we need:

members
a constitution, including aims and objectives
a membership fee (small)
a bank account
a plan

we will need some members to be able to give help/talks/classes on any aspect of computers and computing

we will need some members who need help or who want to learn

i can do stuff on networking, unix/linux server stuff, security, computer forensics

i would like us to be able to give people some skills they can use to get jobs.

i would also like there to be some charitable aspect to the club. maybe refurbishing unwanted PCs and giving them out to people without computers who can make use of them.

regards

hello sean,

now the election is over perhaps we can put aside our political views?

if you need any help on this, its my day job. i can sort you out with constitutions etc and funding, or if you'd rather not have me involved give gavo a ring on 315626 and they will be able to help you out

i dont mind being involved, especially in the early days/first few years with regards to coming on the committee, but i have no idea of computers im sorry

with regards to a plan, is it possible to get a few people togehter to go through this? just as a start?

my comments were not really to do with political views. it was the lack of policies by your party i was objecting to. also your party was blaming the labour council when nearly all of you had been members of the labour party and had been involved in electing that labour council.

all people will be welcome.

if it works out you will be able to use it elsewhere.

i'm hoping we will get enough interest to do that.

in order to be a club we need to have a membership and that should probably include a fee. i was thinking of 2 - 5 per year, with reduced rates for unemployed, etc

Sean,

Would like to help with this..work for an IT compnay and might even be able to get our old machines for the club/to give to people.

When we refresh ( about 3000 pcs per year ) they sell to staff for about 8 each. They are not bad specs ie P4s with 512mg memory so ok for work type apps but not high end gaming!!!

I can look to see if they will donate machines to charities etc ( I know there is an issue with liability which is why they give them to staff not external bodies!)

I can also help out with certain IT issues and also on Finance packages ( SAP/Peopleosft etc)

Will email you when I have a minute

Simon

probably in georgetown, but it would be nice to have events at various places around tredegar.

i can do a talk about cheating in online games, but cheating at poker and other casino games is something i know little about.

that would be great.

i can do a secure erase of all hard disks and i'm sure we can get them P.A.T.'d before any club member gets them.

any talks or demos on any aspect of computing would be great.

there are various ways to cheat at things like WoW and other games. it must be possible to cheat at other games, especially where there are player interactions, such as poker, pontoon etc.

microsoft and other companies with similar games servers are a bit secretive, but information gets out. with the gambling games companies, virtually nothing about cheating gets circulated.

Such as VAC hacking and so forth? for things such as poker, there's plenty of ways to 'cheat' or earn easy money in online games.

I'd be up for joining/going to a computer club.
Got a bit of knowledge on a lot of topics (other than programming) so linux/windows, networking, security and such I could possibly help on.

If you want to go into software use then I'm pretty good on MS Office especially Excel. If down the line it'd be any use I could run through the basics. I guess it'd depend if you can get the licenses for MS Office. I need to get in the house and settled but if I can be of use in a few months please give me a shout.

i'm sure there would be people up for an excel session, especially if it has a business slant on it.

Most excel/macro tricks work the same (or real similar) in Open office too if you worry about software licenses..

hello this appears to be opening a large can of worms, what about ron harding brian gardner who either use to have web sites on tredegar has anybody talked to them they must known a thing or two also what the the people who liked to get hands dirty so get them to strip and repair hardware can be easy because of the plug and play factor write and ask schools, large companies etc etc, maybe even bill gates might pitch in with a cheque or two but don't hold your breathe on that..
