Thanks to Nick Toulson...

Just a quick Feeling Good update...

Please find details of the current walking and cycling activities run by the Feeling Good Project.

These activities are for people living in the Communities First areas of Ebbw Vale North & South and Tredegar Central, West and Sirhowy (our project area).
Transport can be arranged from selected pick-up points and if you have carers’ costs we might even be able to pay for those.
All activities are free, led by trained leaders and are fully supported. Most activities are held in the Ebbw Vale and Tredegar areas, with some a bit further afield.

Walking for Health – perfect for getting started on the route to good health. Easy going, friendly and enjoyable. Thursdays 12pm – 1pm. Open to all. Why not join one of our popular, rain-free walks - this group hasn’t got wet since it started in May. It’s rained before and after a walk but never during a walk (apart from one or two odd spots). These walks are based on the Let’s Walk Cymru walking model.

Walking – The Next Step Up – NEW ACTIVITY – following suggestions from our beginner level walkers, we’ve set up these new, longer walks that are a bit harder – it shows that their health and fitness is improving! Every Monday afternoon from 1.30pm starting on October 6th 2008. Open to all with a basic level of fitness.

Cycling for Health – NEW ACTIVITY – like the walking groups, but with bikes! We even supply the bikes and have found the easy routes in the area (and yes, there are some that don’t involve hills!). Places are limited to 10 per ride, so please book in advance. Every Wednesday morning from 11.00 until 12.30 starting on October 8th 2008. Minibus pick up available from Ebbw Vale and Tredegar or meet us at the start of the ride. Wednesday afternoon rides are also available for groups – please contact us if your group would like to book a guided ride.

If you have any questions, please contact us. (Note: At long last, we have an answer phone, just in case we’re out!)
We look forward to hearing from you/seeing you on one of our activities.

Yours,
Nick Toulson.
Project Manager.

Feel Good Project
Source - WalesOnline

PEOPLE of all ages in Tredegar and Ebbw Vale are starting to see benefits to their health after getting involved with a project aimed at making people feel good.

The Feeling Good Project, with a wide range of activities from walking, cycling and cooking skills, to finding out more about health through to activities for older people, has got people out and about in Blaenau Gwent.
New initiatives include walking, cycling and exercise groups as well as cooking classes.
The project’s walking group is aimed at people who just want a nice leisurely walk and those taking part have seen real improvements in their health as well as making new friends along the way.
More of these activities will be announced in the new year after the Tredegar Development Trust received a grant worth £572,000 from the Big Lottery Fund to run the project in the Ebbw Vale North and South, Tredegar Central and West and Sirhowy Communities First wards.
The Feeling Good Project organises transport for people to take part in any of these free events.

They can be contacted on 01495 712071 or by e-mail at info@feelgoodproject.org

Campaign To Get People Feeling Good
Source - WalesOnLine

LIVES are being changed and people are becoming fitter, healthier and happier, thanks to a new campaign run by Blaenau Gwent Council and the Feeling Good Project.

Time 4 Health gives people across the Tredegar and Ebbw Vale areas the opportunity to sign up to the Feeling Good Project and take part in activities including cooking, healthy eating, home and domestic skills and environmental improvements.
For every hour they take part in worthwhile activities, people are rewarded with vouchers to use at Blaenau Gwent Council’s sports facilities where they can go to the gym, go swimming, join a fitness class or a game of racket sports.
They can try out golf or cycling at Parc Bryn Bach or even get a ticket for a new release movie at the Market Hall Cinema in Brynmawr.
More than 100 people have taken advantage of the scheme since its launch earlier this year.
Angharrah Simpson, mother Andrea Talbot and her daughter Jodie all say the scheme has transformed their lives.
Angharrah said: “I have suffered with depression and was never confident enough to go into my local sports centre to go swimming or take part in a something like a fitness class.
“Thanks to the Feeling Good Project and the council I’ve been able to start doing this which means I’ve socialised more and have even been able to return to work.”
Steve Evans, the Feeling Good Project’s organiser, said that the six months since the project started they had mainly been working with adults who are looking to lead slightly more active lives.
“We invite people who may have isolation issues or low-level depression to join in with others and have some fun,” said community wellbeing facilitator Steve.
“Time 4 Health allows people to collect time credits for leisure activities, get active and make new friends.”

For information about Feeling Good Project activities you can telephone Steve Evans on 01495 712082 or email info@feelgoodproject.org
