I went for a walk the other day, and I ended up in Dukestown Cemetery (not my normal place to end a walk I must add...). I started taking a few photo's for the site as we always get e-mails , many from abroad, asking of the cemetery.

Anyway, as I'm looking at some of the graves I notice something that I have never seen before.....

On the larger headstones, where OK, you can expect more well to do people people of Tredegars past are buried, it says what their occupation was, for example:-

A Mr. James Hughes, of the Coach & Horses pub in Tredegar (which still stands today), that died in 1898..

And another example, a Mr Evan Parry, who must have held an important job at the time, that of a Colliery Agent who died in 1887:

Got me thinking, what would it say on on the grave stones of some of the people that are on the planet today when its their turn.....?

The full gallery for the Dukestown Cemetery with 34 pictures can be found here.

I noticed when I was up there last, that a lot of the headstones also gave the address of the deceased !

i have a question? if anyone can answer it id be grateful i am being buried in a grave made for 3 two are already there sadly but there is no more room for anymore writing on the front of the head stone so my question is...... can you have writing on the back of a head stone or does the old head stone have to be replaced???????? grim topic i know, but the reality is that unfortunately we will all have to go there one day!!!

I've seen graves with an additional smaller stone laid flat on them or stones around the base of the grave with additional names on..

looked it up and basically if you own the rights to the grave, ie it was bought for 3 people or passed on through death/will etc then its fine.
