Plans for assisted living flats at former hostel revealed Source: SouthWalesArgus PLANS to demolish a former hostel in Tredegar and build flats for assisted living have been revealed.
Melin Homes has submitted a planning application to create 26 assisted living homes at the former Greenacres Hostel, made up of 25 one-bedroom flats and one three-bedroom bungalow.
The former residential care home closed in 2009 and was subsequently put on the market by Blaenau Gwent County Borough Council.
The plans include redevelopment of the former hostel and of one other property in St Luke’s Road, Tredegar.
Accommodation is expected to support a range of residents including elderly people, those with learning disabilities and younger people with physical disabilities. The flats, all in the category of affordable housing, will be designed to support independent living with facilities such as adjustable kitchen worktops, larger living spaces and ground floor wheelchair accessibility.
Designs have been made to ensure the proposed homes are reflective of the area.
Car parking is proposed on-site, with a total of 23 spaces.
