28th February 2006 - Main news page
Kwik Save closed its doors for the last time Sunday afternoon.

They said months ago it would shut, now it has.
Running out of places to get the grub in . . . .

Is it permanent then? I know 13 in Wales are closing for good but notice on door said will be closed on Feb 27th (or so dearest mother informed me!)
If it has shut forever then we've got a choice of.......Farmfoods, Farmfoods or um.......Farmfoods!

Ah! Well they did say at the theatre tonight that it was going to be opened as something else. Let's hope we get something decent.

I can see we're not on the list of stores that are without buyers so that's something. The Rhymney one is on the list though.

As of the 28th February 2006, Kwik Save has been taken over by new management, and a list of stores operated under new management can be found at http://www.kwiksave.co.uk. The Tredegar & Rhymney stores are not on the list, but the Ebbw Vale store is.

It is being taken over by someone (not Somerfield) and the staff will be losing their jobs.

Oh well- it's au revoir to Kwik Save today - any absolute confirmation on who is going there instead? Heard Aldi's being mentioned again- anyone know exactly who it will be?

I heard earlier in the week that Aldi were in for it but hadn't then signed, yesterday I heard that it was definitely Aldi...............................Guess we will have to wait and see!
Lots of rumours going around about other shops too, but nothing definite.

apparently Aldi cannot be in the same town as a Lidl store, as brothers own each one, and they won't put them in the same town as each other to stop competition between the two.

I like to point out there is no relation between Aldi & Lidl. The Aldi group are two brothers Karl & Theo Albrecht who opened there first store in Dortmund in 1973.

Lidl & Schwarz were grocery wholesale and started trading in 1930 and opened there first Lidl store in 1973 in Germany
