..Well it was Superb weather for a change, for this very touching Remembrance Day event.! .... But what put a dampner on it for me was after the Wreathes were placed at the foot of the monument, the band started playing lovely. And then they were drowned out by the Loudspeakers on a white van shouting ragbone ragbone any old iron......!!

Thanks to the Tredegar Branch of the Royal British Legion, and also to Tredegar Town Council, who jointly organized our Town Act of Remembrance.

And for the first time in many years the PA system worked.

Another picture.......

Something in the back of my mind that the soldier is only one (or two?) to have its gun pointing upwards?

Byran, have I got that right

Noticed in the letter page of the G/Gazette today, 2 letters complaining about the state of our monument,wanting to know why it was in such a state and why none of the 5mill had been spent on it, not even cleaning it.
Have to say when i went down and had a look at it on park open day it did look pretty clean to me but that was months ago.
Beautiful pics,all the more poignant after watching the news tonight with the repatriation of the Rhymney soldier.

Don't think it supposed to have the green bits and the stones with the names of the fallen always look stinking .

In reply to Pierre's question.

I have been reliably told that the stance of 'Present Arms' is unique, and again I'm told that it is the only one in Great Britain.

Sorry Bryan, its definitely not unique. I've been to the the one in Ilford, London and its almost identical to ours.

Hi TYG
I have just looked at the monument and as you said its identical, they have a programe upgrading the Park between 2010-2013

taken from the web site
The Ilford War Memorial Garden has a tremendous historical importance and is a unique and priceless asset for the people of Redbridge.
The garden incorporates a range of features, pictured in figure 1 below including:
#61656;
A memorial hall and commemorative First World War infantry soldier statue
#61656;
A rotunda
#61656;
Formal rose beds
#61656;
Mature shrubs beds
#61656;
Mature lime trees
#61656;

in the search I entered ==Ilford, London fallen warrior monument

This is the Ilford one:

On checking it out, it is the same sculptor as ours: http://www.ukniwm.org.uk

Tredegar is ref 2016 and Ilford is 2067.

I don't know whats sadder - that I visited the Ilford one or that I know how to confirm this stuff

That will teach me never to listen to informed gossip, even if from people in the know.

Well done TYG
